Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zelensky biography

Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zelensky

Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zelensky (Ukrainian: Volodimir Olexandrovich Zelensky) (this article is in Russian Владимир Александрович Зеленский) — is a Ukrainian[ru] showman, TV presenter, film and television producer, screenwriter, actor, artistic director and permanent leader of the Kvartal-95 studio. The 6th President of Ukraine (since May 20, 2019). Zodiac sign: Aquarius.

Vladimir Zelensky was born on January 25, 1978 in the city of Krivoy Rog, Dnipropetrovsk region. For four years he lived[ru] with his parents in Mongolia in the city of Erdenet, where his father Alexander Semenovich Zelensky, Candidate of Technical Sciences, professor, head of the Department of Computer Science[ru], teacher at the university (where Vladimir learn), worked in the direction; his mother, Rimma Vladimirovna, is a housewife.

In Mongolia, at the age of eight, Vova went to the first grade: there children[ru] go to school from the age of 8. Vladimir spoke Mongolian, but when the family returned to Krivoy Rog, the boy almost forgot the language. Vladimir has wonderful memories of life in Mongolia, hills, fields of peonies and tulips.

In Ukraine, Volodya, in addition to school, played sports and attended a theater circle. He was a very active and enthusiastic child. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a border guard, and when he grew up, his dream became the profession of a translator and diplomat. He was even preparing for admission to MGIMO, since the Kiev Institute of International Relations (KIMO) was a new, little-known university in those years.

After school, Zelensky became a student at the Krivoy Rog Economic Institute of the Kiev National University of Economics; upon graduation, Volodya received a law degree. He has never worked in his specialty, except for two months of practice.

As a student, Zelensky became interested in KVN, created the miniature theater "The Waif". The creative inclinations of a talented student were noticed almost immediately. He was invited by the director of dance numbers in "Zaporozhye-Krivoy Rog-Transit" — KVN team, which at that time was very popular. Zelensky participated in their performances during the dances, and soon began to appear in the numbers.

Together with Vladimir, the future actors of the Kvartal-95 studio came to the team: Denis Manzhosov, Yuri Krapov, Alexander Pikalov. It was they who, in 1997, separated from Transit, created the 95th Quarter team. Vladimir Zelensky became not only a captain and an actor in it, but also the author of most of the numbers.

From 1999 to 2003, the 95th Quarter played in the KVN Top League. Their performances have always been very successful; the team members practically lived in Moscow and constantly toured the CIS.

The team received the "Big Nod in the Light" twice (2000, 2001). Vladimir, in addition to working in a team, additionally wrote scripts for concerts and corporate parties.

In 2003, there was a conflict of the "95th quarter" with the company AMIK. Vladimir Alexandrovich was offered to stay in KVN, but without a team — as an author and editor. Zelensky refused and left KVN.

Taking advantage of the vacation, Volodya married Elena Kiyashko, with whom he had been dating for more than 7 years. They studied in parallel classes. She is one of the team's authors, although by education, just like Zelensky, she is a lawyer.

At the end of 2003, the Ukrainian TV channel "1 + 1" offered the "95th quarter" to make a series of concerts consisting of the best numbers of the team; in the same year, the musical "For Two Hares" was released.

In 2004, 2 films with the participation of V.A. Zelensky were released: "Casanova involuntarily" and "Allow me to enter" (Minaev). And on July 15, 2004, Vladimir and Elena born[ru] a daughter, Alexandra Zelenskaya.

Vladimir hosted the cooking show "Mr. Cook". In 2005, the TV show "Evening Quarter" was launched on the Inter TV channel, the ideologist, author, director and leading actor of which was Vladimir Alexandrovich. The show quickly became popular, and soon overtook KVN and Comedy Club in ratings among the Ukrainian audience. In the same year, the musical "The Three Musketeers" appeared, in which Zelensky played d'Artagnan.

In 2006, Vladimir starred in the film "Police Academy" (Minaev) and took part in the Ukrainian version of the project "Dancing with the Stars-1". His partner was two-time world champion in ballroom dancing Alena Shoptenko. The TV show gathered a record number of viewers — 87.57% of the total TV audience, and the final gala concert in ratings even surpassed the New Year's[ru] address of the president. The Zelensky-Shoptenko couple won the final by a large margin according to the results of the audience vote.

After the success of the Dancing with the Stars project, Zelensky became one of the most popular characters on Ukrainian television. As a TV presenter together with Ruslana Pysanka, Vladimir hosted the show "Office Romance", which was broadcast by the Inter channel. He regularly starred in New Year's musicals, took part in various TV shows, conducted concerts, wrote TV and film scripts.

Critics attribute the "Evening Quarter" to a political cabaret. The 95th Quarter team has grown into the Kvartal-95 studio, whose owners are Vladimir Zelensky, Boris Shefir and Sergey Shefir. The studio has released several TV projects ("Fight Club", "Ukraine, Get Up"), wrote scripts for TV shows ("Song of the Year in Ukraine", "Polundra"), films, corporate parties and the musical "A Very New Year's Movie or a Night at the Museum" (2007).

In 2008, Vladimir starred in the film "Horton" (mayor of Khtovsk), as well as in the role of dentist Igor in the full-length comedy by Marius Weisberg "Love[ru] in the Big City", filmed according to the script of Studio Kvartal-95. Vera Brezhneva, Ville Haapasalo, Alexey Chadov also starred in the film. The film tells the story of three friends trying to regain their manhood, was generally well received in Russia[ru] and Ukraine, as well as its sequel, Love in the Big City-2 (although there were tired jokes "below the belt").

On the "New Wave" the presenters were Philip Kirkorov and Zelensky. For two years, starting in November 2010, Vladimir held the position of general producer of the Ukrainian channel "Inter".

After working in the TV musical "Like Cossacks...", where Zelensky played Ostap/Fandorin. In "Make the Comedian Laugh" (Ukrainian version) Vladimir was a member of the jury with Evgeny Koshev and Dmitry Shepelev, previously with Mikhail Galustyan. The program was launched in 2010. On the same channel, he hosted the show "Millionaire — Hot Seat".

In 2011, Zelensky became the co-host of Philip Kirkorov in the Russian version of the show "X-Factor" - "Factor A"; and on March 17 of the same year, the premiere of the film "Office Romance. Our time." But this picture, in which Vladimir played the main role of Anatoly Yefremrovich Novoseltsev, was a complete failure. Shooting remakes of popularly beloved paintings is a difficult and thankless task. The remake is always compared with the original, in this case the weight categories were simply polar: Ryazanov, Myagkov and Freundlich on the one hand and Andreasyan, Zelensky, Khodchenkova on the other.

In addition to acting in films, Vladimir Zelensky acted as a screenwriter ("Legend. Lyudmila Gurchenko") and producer. He produced the highly successful TV series "Matchmakers 5" (2011) and "Mitya's Tales" (host of "The Million Show", 2012).

Even lower ratings were awarded to the comedy of Marius Weisberg "Rzhevsky against Napoleon", which premiered on January 25, 2012. In it, Vladimir Zelensky acted in the main role of the French emperor. An empty, meaningless, ridiculous and absolutely unfunny film, where a skirt was considered to be a joke. It was particularly puzzling that the film was shot in 3D format.

Unexpected was the success of the next comedy with Zelensky's participation — "8 first dates" (Nikita), which premiered on March 8, 2012. The idea of the plot turned out to be far from new; it turned out to be an easy, cheerful, and most importantly a kind film, devoid of any vulgarity, many viewers noted this.

On September 3, 2012, Vladimir officially left the post of general producer of Inter. In the same year, as part of the TV show "Kiev Evening" (presenter with Valery Zhidkov), which is released on the channel "1 + 1" (Ukraine), Zelensky staged and read the text from the author in the animated series "Fabulous Russia".

In 2013, Zelensky became the host together with Vera Brezhneva of the musical[ru] show "I want to go to Viagra!".

On January 21, 2013, Vladimir's son Kirill Zelensky was born.

Vladimir considers it a brave act of any man to be responsible for his family. He has a wife and two children, he calls it a rather brave act of his. The wife and children very rarely see their beloved husband and dad at home, but for him his family are the most beloved people in the world. Volodya says in his interviews that his family gives him strength and emotional charge. If he manages to communicate with the children for only ten minutes, then even during this time he tries to give them pleasure. Even when he goes home from work, the first thought is whether they are already asleep or not yet.

On January 1, 2014, the comedy "Love in the Big City 3" was released on cinema screens, where Vladimir played the role of Igor the dentist.

On January 1, 2015, the film "8 new dates" was released, with Zelensky starring Nikita.

On March 31, 2019, the presidential elections of Ukraine were held in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine "On Presidential Elections of Ukraine", in which 39 candidates took part, including Vladimir. The Head of country[ru] was elected by direct universal secret ballot for a five-year term. Vladimir Zelensky and current President Petro Poroshenko won in the first round. Zelensky won more than 30% of the vote — almost twice as much as the current president Petro Poroshenko. Both candidates qualified for the second round of elections scheduled for April 21, 2019.

On April 21, 2019, the second round of presidential elections was held in Ukraine. After processing 96.94% of electronic protocols by the CEC of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky won 73.15% of the votes, Petro Poroshenko - 24.52%.

On May 20, 2019, the inauguration of Zelensky, the elected president of Ukraine, took place. He called the ceasefire in Donbass his first task as president. Then he announced the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada and called on members of the government to "make room for future generations." Zelensky also asked the deputies to adopt a number of important laws two months before the end of their powers, in particular, on the abolition of parliamentary immunity, on criminal liability for illegal enrichment and the "long-suffering electoral code". Also in his speech Zelensky asked officials not to hang his portrait in their offices: "Because the president is not an icon. Put photos of your children there and look them in the eye[ru] before each decision," he said.

Political views

During the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, Zelensky supported the actions of the Ukrainian army and joined the "Musical Hundred", whose task is to raise the morale of soldiers of the Ukrainian army to "fight separatism." In his speeches, he ridiculed Russian politicians and militia leaders. In Russia, the show "Evening Quarter" was canceled, the third season of the show "Make the Comedian Laugh", in which he was a member of the jury with Maxim Galkin, did not take place. Instead of Zelensky, Igor Vernik became the host of the music contest "I Want to Meladze", although Vladimir remained the producer of this program. Zelensky condemns the ban on the entry of Russian cultural figures to Ukraine.
